DESIGN & SILHOUETTE
The ukiyo-e "Kumagaya Jiro Naozane Ichikawa Danjūrō" is a work painted by Utagawa Kunisada, depicting Kumagai Jiro Naozane played by Ichikawa Danjūrō.
Kumagai Jiro Naozane was a military commander in the Genpei War, and plays an important role in Kabuki as a symbol of loyalty and conflict. Ichikawa Danjūrō is a distinguished Edo Kabuki actor who excels at rough plays. In this piece, he embodies the fierceness and beauty of the samurai's inner self.
The wave pattern on the kimono is not merely decorative, but symbolizes the intensity of emotions, the ferocity of battle, and inner turmoil.
The color scheme of gold and blue on a black background is the same as that of the kimono in the original ukiyo-e. The original pattern is decomposed and arranged as a repeating pattern all over the shirt. The natural, asymmetrical arrangement preserves the free movement of the waves.
FABRIC:
The fabric feels smooth and silky to the touch, making it extremely comfortable to wear. It uses fake Tencel, which has a beautiful luster, making it lightweight and soft. It is also resistant to static electricity, so it does not stick to the skin and cause discomfort.
COORDINATE:
Pair it with sneakers and a cap for a street feel, or mix it with Japanese elements for a more modern or avant-garde look.
